This resulted in a major protest by members of the PDP in the House leading to their walkout. The angry members had complained after Speaker Yakubu Dogara allowed the defection to stand.

They argued that due to the recent declaration by the Supreme Court, there was no division in the PDP to warrant such a defection.

Honourable Raphael Igbokwe, a member of the House of Representatives from Imo state on the platform of the PDP suddenly joined the APC on the floor of the chamber on Tuesday, December 19.

The Punch reports that Igbokwe first came to the House in 2011. The report said Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state was at the National Assembly to witness the defection of Igbokwe at the session presided over by the Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Igbokwe, however. said he actually joined the APC in January, 2017 when there was a leadership crisis in the PDP.
