Eden Hazard moved past the 100 career league goals milestone with two goals as he orchestrated Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the AMEX stadium.

It was a good start from both sides, with Chelsea looking nice and sharp in possession in the opening exchanges and Brighton playing a pressing game down on halfway. Chelsea took the lead inside three minutes of play, when Stephens made a lazy clearance from Moses’ low cross and directed the ball straight to Hazard about 10 yards, and the Belgian international didn’t disappoint with a classy finish.

Three minutes later Hazard, Batshuayi and Willian combined perfectly, with the Brazilian finishing off the perfect move with the second goal. Brighton continued to dominate and looked more dangerous side. Every time they came forward they looked as though they could grab a goal.

Brighton came even closer with another aerial effort five minutes into the second half when Propper’s guided header had Caballero beaten only to rebound off the frame of the goal. Hazard reasserted his influence on the match and, when he was brought down by Shane Duffy in a central area, it was only Ryan tipping Willian’s subsequent free kick on to the post that kept Brighton in touch.

Schelotto threatened to reduce the gap from close range, but his prodded effort was well parried by Caballero. Hughton brought on Glenn Murray and Beram Kayal in a double-change that failed to improve Brighton’s fortunes, while Chelsea will have more injury concerns after Andreas Christensen had to be replaced by David Luiz.

Moses was set free by Charly Musonda, beat Ryan from close range as the final whistle approached.

FT Brighton 0-4Chelsea

This result sees Chelsea move third ahead of Liverpool who have a game in hand, and surprisingly, it is the first win in 2018 for the holding PL Champions.
