The Football Association, the Premier League and Football League (EFL) are understood to have given the green light for an annual two-week break in early February.

This break will be in full force the season after next {19/20}, and it will see that all Premier League clubs have at least 13 days without a match. According to The Times, the break will, however, be scattered. Five Premier League matches will be played on one weekend and five on another.

The FA Cup will also be affected.

The 5th round of the FA Cup will be played entirely in the middle of the week, WITHOUT replays. Initially, if a match in the 5th round ended in a draw, there would be a replay to determine the winner.

For example, currently, Rochdale Vs Tottenham Hotspur will be replayed at Wembley (Spurs’ home) after the match played in Spotland Stadium (Rochdale’s home) ended in a 2-2 draw. There will be no more replays once the new system is in place.

The winter break will, however, NOT apply in the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two. The 46-game schedule for each division means that there is less flexibility, the EFL has revealed.
