According to Atletico Madrid and Spain striker Diego Costa, Argentina should thank God for Lionel Messi instead of criticizing the Barcelona man.
In Tuesday’s International friendly Vs Spain, Messi was absent due to injury as his team was humbled in a 6-1 defeat. Costa opened the scoring for Spain, with Real Madrid midfielder Isco adding his first international hat-trick in the comprehensive win.
Despite winning five Ballon d’Ors and countless trophies with Barcelona, Messi is yet to win anything with Argentina. His side lost to Germany in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and have also been beaten in three Copa America finals.
“You have to do an analysis in all aspects. The Argentines criticise Messi a lot, but you can tell that when Messi is not there, they are something else. A player like Messi should not be criticised. You should thank God that he’s there. Messi must always be treated well. Even if he plays a bad game with the national team, having him on the field makes a difference,” Diego Costa said after the game.
