Chelsea won 30 0f their 38 matches last season and went ahead to secure the PL title in Conte’s first season in charge, but this season, nothing seems to be going their way.
They are a woeful 25 points off league leaders Manchester City and might just miss out of the top four. Having lost to Barcelona in the CL knockout stages and to Manchester City and Manchester United in recent weeks, their confidence seems to have taken a dip.
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech, who won four Premier League titles with Chelsea, believes his former club have suffered a crisis of confidence. “It’s very hard to tell because the team stayed more or less together, obviously the manager stayed there and had the chance. When you win the league in your first season it’s the best possible start because people trust you, you make a name for yourself. It’s sometimes very surprising when the season goes completely wrong. It might just be that things go different and you try too hard, then once you get in a bad run it can affect the confidence in the team and it becomes difficult,” Cech explained.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has recently been complaining about not being able to sign who he wants both in the summer and January transfer windows. For instance, he targeted Lukaku but the Belgian joined Man United and Chelsea had to settle for Morata, who currently, has just one goal in 2018.
